Understanding the Craps Table Layout

Craps can feel overwhelming for beginners, but once you understand the table layout, the game becomes straightforward. The table is divided into two mirrored halves, with the centre section reserved for prop bets. The main betting areas include the Pass Line, Don’t Pass, Come, Don’t Come, and the Field. At the top, you’ll see the Place Bets and Big 6/8. The rectangular area in the middle contains proposition bets like Any 7, Any Craps, and Hard Ways. When you play at Spinbet-nz casino, the craps table is clearly marked, and dealers are happy to explain each section. Stick to the Pass Line and Come bets initially — they have the lowest house edge and are easiest to understand.

Understanding the Craps Table Layout

Basic Bets and Their Payouts

Knowing which bets to place and how much they pay is essential. The table below lists the most common bets, their typical payouts, and the house edge. Remember that the house edge varies depending on whether you’re betting on the pass or don’t pass side.

Bet Type Payout House Edge
Pass Line / Come 1:1 1.41%
Don’t Pass / Don’t Come 1:1 1.36%
Place 6 or 8 7:6 1.52%
Field (2 or 12 pays triple) 1:1, 2:1, or 3:1 2.78%
Hard 6 or Hard 8 9:1 9.09%
Any 7 4:1 16.67%

Using a Spinbet-nz bonus on craps can be tricky because wagering requirements often exclude table games. Check the terms before you commit — some bonuses allow craps to count partially or fully towards wagering, which can extend your playtime.

Step‑by‑Step Betting Strategy for Beginners

Follow this ordered sequence to minimise risk and learn the flow of the game:

  1. Start with the Pass Line. Place your bet before the come‑out roll. If the shooter rolls a 7 or 11, you win immediately. If a 2, 3, or 12 shows, you lose. Any other number becomes the point.
  2. Take full Odds. After the point is set, you can add a free Odds bet behind your Pass Line. This bet has zero house edge and pays true odds. Always take maximum odds if your bankroll allows — the combined house edge drops significantly.
  3. Place a Come bet on the next roll. This works exactly like a Pass Line bet but for subsequent rolls. It gives you multiple points and increases your chances of hitting winning numbers.
  4. Avoid prop bets. Stick to the low‑house‑edge areas. The centre bets (Any 7, Hard Ways) may look tempting but they eat your bankroll fast.
  5. Set a stop‑loss and a win goal. For example, decide to leave if you lose 50% of your session bankroll or if you double it. This keeps emotions in check.

Before risking real money, you can practice using a Spinbet-nz no deposit offer if available — this gives you free chips to test the craps table without depositing. Always check the wagering conditions first.

Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

Beginners often make these errors. Recognising them will save you money and frustration:

  • Betting on Big 6/8. These bets pay 1:1 but have a house edge of 2.78% – much worse than Place 6/8 (1.52%). Use Place bets instead.
  • Chasing losses with progressive betting. Doubling your bet after a loss (Martingale) can wipe out a bankroll quickly due to table limits. Stick to flat betting or small increases.
  • Ignoring the odds. Many players forget to take Odds after the point is set. That’s giving away free money — always take maximum odds you can afford.
  • Not reading bonus terms. A Spinbet-nz promo code might give you extra funds, but if the bonus excludes table games or has high wagering, you won’t benefit. Always read the fine print.

Note that craps itself doesn’t use free spins, but Spinbet-nz free spins can be used on slots to build your bankroll for craps play. Combine smart slot winnings with disciplined craps betting for a balanced approach.
